Randall RG100G3 140 Watt Combo Guitar Amp Review

The Randall RG100G3 140 Watt Combo Guitar Amp weighs in at 71 pounds and is a big, beefy amp.  This well built amp’s outer case is made of black vinyl with a smooth finish and there are plastic protectors on each of the four corners.

The RG100G3 is a solid state / tube hybrid with a foot switch that lets you switch channels and control distortion and reverb.
There are 14 knobs across the upper part of the front face that allow you to control the two channels, Clean and Overdrive.  The clean channel has a boost option and a sound that is free of distortion.  The Gain 1 and Gain 2 options give you plenty of distorion for hard rock.

The Reviews:

After thoroughly researching this particular amplifier we were only able to find a handful of reviews.  The reviews that we did find were very positive with only one exception.  The person that gave the Randall RG100G3 140 Watt Combo Guitar Amp a negative review said that it looks great from the outside but that it is lacking when you look a little closer.  This person claims that it hums quite a bit and the reverb is not very good and they said that the distortion “sounds like it’s coming at you through a Coke can” and even after adjusting the equalizer there was nothing they could do to fix it.

Keep in mind that all of the negative comments that we were able to find were from just one person.  There were a few positive reviews for this amplifier as well.  One reviewer said that the Randall RG100G3 is very versatile and can play anything from blues to metal and that “the 12AX7tube in the preamp stage adds a real warmth, over the previous G2′s.”

Our research turned up the one negative review and a couple of positive reviews and while there are not really enough reviews online to be able to make a definitive conclusion it does seem like the consensus is that this is a great all-around high gain amp that may be one of the best in its price range.
